    The Sand Hill Foundation funds organizations and programs in San Mateo County and northern Santa Clara County, California – specifically, Daly City to Mountain View, from the coastside to the bay. They specifically fund local organizations with strong leadership, visionary plans for the future, and cultures of continuous learning. The Sand Hill Foundation will provide support for organizations within the following fields of interest:

    • Health & Opportunity
      • Health: the Foundation supports programs that expand access to essential primary healthcare or improve the local mental health system for youth and young adults, with a particular focus on culturally-responsive prevention and early intervention that promotes holistic well-being.
      • Economic Opportunity: Asset-building activities like entrepreneurship, job training, small business loans, and financial literacy programs for low-income individuals and working families.
      • Educational Opportunity: Academic, college access and completion, and social-emotional learning programs for youth that take place after school and in summer, as well as scholarships and fellowships for young adults.
    • Environment & Sustainability
      • Conservation: Open space preservation, land stewardship, and sustainable farming practices, primarily in San Mateo and northern Santa Clara Counties.
      • Environmental Education: Hands-on programs that build environmental literacy and science knowledge, increase equitable access to nature and outdoor learning for youth, and expose young people to the healing properties of nature.
      • Sustainability: Community-informed efforts to balance economic, environmental, and social benefits in order to mitigate the impacts of climate change and nurture adaptive resilience.

  • Eligibility Details

    Eligible applicants are tax-exempt and work within San Mateo County and northern Santa Clara County, California – specifically, Daly City to Mountain View, from the coastside to the bay.

    Deadline Details

    Letters of Inquiry from new applicants are accepted on a rolling basis. After a Letter of Inquiry is submitted, applicants will be notified within a month if they are eligible to proceed to a full proposal.


    Returning applicants may submit a full proposal with no LOI required.
