The Kresge Foundation is a private, national foundation that works to expand opportunities in America's cities through grantmaking and investing in arts and culture, education, environment, health, human services and community development efforts in targeted US cities such as Detroit.
The foundation makes single and multi-year grants. The types of funding supported by the foundation include:
The Foundation funds the following programs and initiatives:
Kresge awards between $120 million and $150 million in grants each year to worthy nonprofit organizations located in the United States. Previous grant recipients can be viewed at: https://kresge.org/grants-social-investments/grants-awarded/
U.S. non-profit organizations or the international equivalent are eligible to apply for funding through the Kresge Foundation. Government entities and faith-based organizations are eligible to apply. Some funding areas require an invitation by the foundation prior to submittal of an application, therefore it is strongly recommended that interested applicants reach out to the appropriate foundation contact early in the grant seeking process.
Most often, the Foundation invites applicants. Occasionally, program teams issue an open call for LOIs within a focus area. For initiatives, programs typically use an open request-for-proposals process. Whenever available, the Foundation lists open opportunities on the Current Funding Opportunities page.
