The Bodenwein Public Benevolent Foundation was established in 1938 under the will of Theodore Bodenwein, owner and publisher of The Day newspaper, to support and promote quality educational, cultural, human services, and health care programming for underserved populations. The Foundation specifically serves the people of Greater New London County, where The Day has a substantial circulation. The Foundation supports projects with the following subject areas:
Priority consideration will be provided for projects that address the following population groups: Academics; Children and youth; Economically disadvantaged people; Low-income people; and Students.

Eligible applicants are 501(c)(3) organizations serving the residents of New London County, Connecticut. This includes the communities of East Lyme, Groton, Ledyard, Lyme, Montville, Mystic, New London, North Stonington, Old Lyme, Salem, Stonington, and Waterford.
Applications may be submitted by May 15 and November 15 annually.
