    Summary

    Urban and Community Forestry Grants are made available through federal grant funds from the United States Department of Agriculture. Examples of eligible projects include:

    • Community tree inventories and management plans
    • Parking lot improvements for storm water runoff
    • Tree-friendly streets (allowing for root space and canopy growth)
    • Improving tree health (including tree maintenance plans, improved soil amendments, additional mulching, professional pruning and restoration, etc.)
    • Greenway development planning and urban stream restoration (including demonstration areas, feasibility studies, maps, etc.)
    • Communications materials (including any materials that increase public awareness of the benefits of urban forests)
    • Education and training for tree care workers

  • Eligibility Details

    Eligible recipients must be affiliated with a government entity, non-profit organization or an educational institution and meet all federal regulations, requirements, and standards.

    Deadline Details

    Applications were to be submitted by August 28,2020. A similar deadline is anticipated annually.

    Award Details

    The maximum federal cost share of any project is 50% of the total expenditures for the project. The non-federal match may be cash, services, or in-kind contributions. The allowable grant expenditures for local program development have a maximum limit of $12,000 federal dollars. Funding for tree planting is limited to $2000 federal dollars per project. Tree planting expenses in excess of $2000 may be used as non-federal match for a project. 


    The Grant Review Committee may waive the maximum allowable grant award for an exceptional proposal.
