    Summary

    Awards are made through this program for the purpose of improving the physical health of neighborhoods to create a healthier, more stable community where families can thrive. Grants are for community improvement projects that include activities such as construction or refurbishment of affordable or transitional housing, building, rebuilding, painting, refurbishing, increasing energy efficiency or sustainability, landscaping, planting of native trees, community facility improvements and the development and/or improvement of green spaces. Grants must support work completed by community volunteers in the U.S. 


    The Foundation's mission is to ensure that every veteran has a safe place to call home. As such- priority will be placed on volunteer projects that fit the following criteria.

    • Projects that serve veterans and their families, whether that's repairing homes or improving facilities
    • Projects that involve veterans volunteering to help other veterans in the communities where they live

    Grants are given in the form of The Home Depot gift cards for the purchase of tools, materials, or services.

    The Program focuses on support for organizations that serve veterans in local communities, as well as organizations that serve vulnerable and underserved communities. Projects will include housing repairs, modifications, and weatherization work.


    The Home Depot Foundation's Community Impact Grant Program DOES NOT make grants to support the following:

    • Nonprofit organizations that have been in existence for less than one year
    • Churches and religious organizations whose improvement project primarily serves their congregation and not the overall community
    • Scholarships or other direct support to individuals or families
    • Fraternal, political, labor, athletic or social organizations, civic clubs, candidates or projects
    • Sponsorship or prizes for events such as conferences, festivals, dinners, sports competitions, art exhibits, fundraisers (e.g. dinners, walks/runs/relays, golf tournaments and auctions)
    • Requests for The Home Depot's Kids Workshop kits and/or aprons
    • Capital campaigns, endowments or endowed chairs
    • Film, music, television, video or media production projects or broadcast underwriting
    • Goodwill advertising or marketing
    • Any other support that does not meet the IRS's definition of a charitable purpose.

  • Eligibility Details

    Only IRS-registered 501c designated organizations and tax-exempt public service agencies (e.g. Police/Fire Departments) in the U.S. are eligible to apply. 


    In very limited circumstances, applications that are submitted by organizations that do not meet this guideline will be considered, but only to the extent that they are requesting funds to support a charitable purpose as defined by the IRS.

    Deadline Details

    The Community Impact Grant program accepts applications through December 31, 2021. A similar deadline is anticipated annually.


    All applicants will receive a written response within six weeks of receipt of a request. Please do not contact your local store or The Home Depot Customer Care helpline to inquire about the status of your application.

    Award Details

    Up to $5,000 is provided to an applicant through this program. Grants are made in the form of The Home Depot gift cards for the purchase or tools or materials. Grants are not awarded for recurring funding. Projects must begin 6-12 weeks after submission and be completed within the following 6 months.
